Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in krusader (Ubuntu):

I believe this is a bug in ubuntu and not in Krusader, smplayer or Skype. Did some research online and issuing sudo killall -9 unity-settings-daemon seems to have an effect on things - although it does not solve the glitches.

I think too that is bug of ubuntu, because I found another complaint with this issue http://askubuntu.com/questions/691636/update-to-15-10-breaks-qt-apps

I have the same problem with KeePassX and ownCloud sync client in Ubuntu 14.04 (with non-default kernel 4.0.7-040007-generic).

Reported this to Qt as well: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-49215

Their response was that they have stopped supporting 4.x versions. Not sure if krusader, smplayer and skype are using 4.x qt but 'apt-cache showpkg krusader' seems to list 4.x qt libs.

Could this mean this is a kernel 4.x issue?

Changing affected package to the kernel as it seems to be related to that based on affected users' feedback

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.3 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Issues with qbzr and mumble as well, but works with workaround mentioned here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/693136/upgraded-to-ubuntu-15-10-wily-and-get-qnativeimage-unable-to-attach-shared-memo
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=200167

So from terminal:
QT_GRAPHICSSYSTEM=native mumble

qbzr and mumble do seem to use qt4 from dependency package list.

Note, this is with a fresh install of 15.10 just after release, not an upgrade.

This is not related to kernel. I've tried version 4.3 (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.3-wily/) in Ubuntu 14.04 and the problem remains. It really looks like it has something to do with other programs based on Java. As soon as I close PhpStorm, the problem disappears in other programs.

I'm using intellij all day, which is also a java app. Today I'm testing if the workaround QT_GRAPHICSSYSTEM=native solves the issue or not

I confirm that I have this issue with KeepassX. Closing Phpstorm actually fixes it.
