[dash] applications place empty when Software Center not installed

up-to-date with unity-2d from ppa
the application dash is empty as you can see in screenshot.
also search function doesn't work.

I've found why it is empty.. I haven't software-center installed.
Once installed applications are available in dash.. I believe it is related to software-catalog.

It is possibile to make software-center dependency optional?

If S-C really is a dependency, it should at least be reflected as such in unity-2d’s control file so that the packages depend on it.

It may be a dependency of unity-place-applications, not of Unity 2D per se.

I have software-center installed but dash is empty and click to "More Applications" does nothing. So I cannot start any application besides launcher. I updated from 10.10, bug not present in clean install of Alpha3 in VirtualBox. Maybe I need reinstall software-center to update catalog?
