Bug Description

The icon wording is messed up in 10.10. Not a functional problem as far as I can tell, but it looks really bad/ugly

Thanks for reporting this bug and help to make ubuntu better.

How did you get netbook-launcher and unity together?
This shouldn't be the case, did you make a partial upgrade, did you force anything on dpkg side?

Can you apt-cache policy netbook-launcher, please?

Also, do you have a screenshot handy, Robert? If so, please attach it to
the bug. And ideally, highlight the affected area using Gimp or a
similar image editor.

Hi Mark. Great to "see you" I think this is the first time I've seen your post.....anyway, onward to business.

I used UNetBootin and created the installer on a USB disk from the 10.04 CD I requested. HOWEVER, I ended up re-installing with a scratch install using entire disk option from CD a few days later because I ended up, as usual in my curiosity, messing with something and wacked the install somehow.

Then, I upgraded to 10.10 via normal means. The system did tell me that it must do a partial upgrade but I don't see any further updates. I can wipe the system and try again if you want. This netbook is a spare of mine so there is no necessity in keeping it up/available

OK, I was confused. The ISO was downloaded and put on a USB via UNetBootin. I was playing with a couple of versions (KUbuntu and Ubuntu on CD that was sent to me and NBR via ISO from download), so sorry for the confusion.

Waow, partial upgrade on dist-upgrade? :)
That doesn't sound good in fact.

So, please, yeah, wipe your system, you shouldn't have netbook-launcher installed on 10.10 anymore. Keep us posted!

OK, installed from a freshly downloaded and burnt (to CD) ISO of 10.10 Netbook Remix.

On restart, all icons and words look good.

After running updates, all is still well.

Not sure what happened, but something must have become hosed in the updates arena because the interface looks much different than after the upgrade.

Suggestion, However, on the same subject of the icon and wording:
The words are not complete for some apps (example: "OpenOffi...g Drawing" or "Transmiss...rent Client" or "Cheese W...am Booth", which may (I know it will, I've worked with users for 23 years) confuse a newbie or a converting user. The words really shouldn't be truncated but somehow become multi-line where and when needed or like Windows does...cut the end off the words until selected with a mouse. Not sure how that should be accomplished, just coming at this from a usability standpoint.

Thanks

yeah, you wrongly kept netbook-launcher on upgrade which shouldn't happen.

For the other bug reports, look at the "unity" project on launchpad, there is one about having that on 2 or 3 lines.
Marking as fix released then.

I don't remember doing anything specific. When you say "You wrongly kept netbook-launcher...", are you referring to the system kept it or was it something I had done intentionally or intentionally?

there was a case when you uninstall ubuntu-netbook where you could have kept it, this case is fixed now :)
