While typing in dash no files or folders show up

Bug #943733 reported by Migas
This bug affects 3 people
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
unity-lens-files (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

When I open dash and start typing no folders nor files show up, only the programs and music.
But if I switch to the file tab in dash it shows my recent files, downloads, and bookmarked folders. But again, as I type, nothing changes, and the search results remain the same as they were when I first switched to the file tab.

The Find Files search was working previously on my system. It must have stopped fairly recently, perhaps after an update.

The problem may not be with package unity-lens-files itself. I say this because I checked on my laptop which I do not use very often and hence do not keep up to date. It is also 11.04 and I see it has the same unity-lens-files package version as on my desktop (0.6.12-0ubuntu1). But on the laptop, typing into the Dash search bar also includes files and folders in the results.

So the problem may be in a higher-level program (? dash or unity) which is not interacting correctly with the Files lens.

In follow up to my previous comment, I notice that the unity package version is the same for my desktop and laptop ( 4.28.0-0ubuntu2).
Also, in a guest account on my desktop computer the dash search includes files and folders.
So the problem looks more like a configuration or interaction conflict specific to my user account. This is more tricky to track down. I thought it might have something to do with installing tracker-gui, another way of searching files and folders. However even after removing it, the problem is still there.
I guess I will have to create another user account for myself and try to see if and when the problem re-occurs.
