Unity search won't find any apps

Bug Description

The Unity search won't find any apps sometimes. Right now I'm not able to see gimp, synaptic, firefox, nautilus, ANY apps, either from the home or applications section of Unity.

It shows "Sorry, there is nothing that matches your search" no matter what I type.
