Bug Description

What I expect to happen:

To be able to change the desktop environment using just the keyboard.

What happens:

On the Login screen you can press the TAB key to select the icon to change desktop environments then press ENTER to see the list. However you can not use the keyboard to select a desktop environment ie the arrow keys do not do anything. The only way to change it is to use the mouse and select an option.

Ubuntu: 12.04 beta 2 (fully updated 14:48 UTC+1 1st April). LightDM: 1.1.9-0ubuntu1

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/970826/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Does the TAB key not work for you in the session chooser? Works for me.

The TAB key works, I mean you can use the TAB key to select the ubuntu logo (see attachment, left picture) and the press ENTER key to get to the desktop environment selection list. But now the 'Back' button is highlighted and you can not use the keyboard to select any option below. The arrow keys do not work.

Right. I'm saying use TAB once the Back button is highlighted to choose a different session.

I agree that it would be neat if the arrow keys also worked there. But it is keyboard navigable.

I am unable to choose a different session with the keyboard, actually. The focus indicator is almost impossible to see, but even with it visible I am unable to move focus from the currently selected session. Pressing Tab seems to switch between the currently selected session, the Back button and the OK button. In one case I was able to tab between sessions, but I have been completely unable to reproduce that. In some other cases Tab doesn't seem to do _anything_; focus is stuck on the current session.

I wonder if this has re-emerged since changing the session choices into buttons? If so, this should be marked as a (quite high priority) regression for accessibility.

Oh, actually, I think I can reproduce this a little better now. The really bad behaviour I described (no focus indicator, focus sticks to current button, no way to get back after opening session list without the mouse) happens after opening any of the indicators. I could have sworn I was triggering it without doing that, but at least it's a start.

works OK with tab and shift tab to move the cursor position around and space to select. The trick is that the last item in the list is OK - which may be off screen. Not an a11y issue (screen reader is perfectly happy to read off-screen items).
