Incosistent behaviour with setting the same background as the users wallpaper

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Even if I copy the background to /usr/share/backgrounds, or set the path in dconf-editor, it doesn't always work. As far as I can remember, every time it worked, I restarted lightdm right after I set a new background.
In the cases this doesn't work, the default background is set.
