Attempting to type password before prompt is ready causes hang

Bug Description

When logging in if I hit a key before the password prompt cursor is flashing the system hangs. I have to drop to a console to restart lightdm.

I'll just add that this doesn't seem to have anything to do with the cursor flashing. What I do now to avoid the hang is roll the cursor around the screen until it stops jerking about. Then I enter my password. So far this has been successful.

Extremely annoying bug this.
