Bug is in basic Ubuntu functionality.
The dialog box acts like it might accept the additional locations, but does not.
No error message seen.

For those who can't wait for this to be back ported into Vivid, you can grab libtimezone 0.4.4 for Wily and install it. I'm yet to see any ill effects from doing this. If you're more paranoid, recompiling is also an option.

How can we "grab libtimezone 0.4.4 for Wily and install it" please -- any link to a deb package to be downloaded ???

Sadi Yumuşak (sa-yu) wrote :

Got it!

Download this (1) https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libtimezonemap-data_0.4.4_all.deb
and this (2-a) https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libtimezonemap1_0.4.4_amd64.deb
or this (2-b) https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libtimezonemap1_0.4.4_i386.deb
or choose other from here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libtimezonemap

And install these two packages with a command like this:
sudo dpkg -i "libtimezonemap1_0.4.4_amd64.deb" "libtimezonemap-data_0.4.4_all.deb"

Will "libtimezonemap 0.4.4" package ever be back ported into Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet? Or this has to be done manually only?

mbott (mbott001) wrote :

I can not answer the "ever" part of your question, but following the steps laid out by Sadi Yumuşak in comment #10 above is the simple fix that worked for me.

Thanks! Replaced the libtimezonemap-data v0.4.3 with a version 0.4.4 from Sadi Yumuşak and it worked.

Hello Doug, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libtimezonemap into vivid-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libtimezonemap/0.4.3.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!

I can confirm that 0.4.3.1 packages work. I tested :

$ dpkg -l | grep libtimezone
ii libtimezonemap-data 0.4.3.1 all GTK+3 timezone map widget - data files
ii libtimezonemap1:amd64 0.4.3.1 amd64 GTK+3 timezone map widget

Notes to others trying this : I made the mistake of thinking that 0.4.3build1 was actually 0.4.3.1, but that is not the case - use 'apt-cache madison libtimezone-data' to list the versions available and to make sure you have vivid-proposed enabled, then 'sudo apt-get install libtimezonemap-data=0.4.3.1 libtimezonemap1:amd64=0.4.3.1' (choose the appropriate architecture to match 'uname -p' - I used the amd64 version because I am running x86_64) to install the specific versions (which is needed if you already installed 0.4.4).

Can you give some more details
- what's the output of "dpkg -l | grep libtimezonemap"
- did you restart unity-control-center
- what chars did you enter? does it behave in a consistant way?

Still not working for me.
I click the "+" and type Los Angeles or Paris but nothing.

$ dpkg -l | grep libtimezonemap
ii libtimezonemap-data 0.4.3build1
all GTK+3 timezone map widget - data files
ii libtimezonemap1:amd64 0.4.3build1
amd64 GTK+3 timezone map widget
