Bug Description
The new Thinkpads have mouse buttons integrated into the trackpad. It is one one big slab where you can click the upper left of the trackpad for left mouse button and upper right for right mouse button, while at the same time you can also scroll your finger across the upper right, upper left, or anywhere on the trackpad to scroll.
For users who prefer to use the trackpoint mouse (that red pencil eraser in the middle of the keyboard) for scrolling, clicking on the mouse buttons causes the mouse to jump. This is because the buttons are integrated into the same trackpad unit that does scrolling, so it scrolls a little when you click a mouse button. It's unusable without modifications.
What I've done to get around this is to add a script like the following to my startup applications (the synclient pieces): http://
This disables the trackpad scrolling and turn it into mouse buttons only.
I think the System Settings for 'Mouse & Touchpad' could use a new check box that basically does the same thing the script above is doing. (The script could probably use some fine-tuning but even as-is it's a huge improvement.)
