12.04 will not shutdown or restart

Bug Description

Selecting power-Cog > shutdown results in user being logged out. Selecting power-cog > shutdown from the LightDM screen does nothing. Selecting power-cog > shutdown > restart does nothing.

Ubuntu will not shutdown nor restart.

"sudo shutdown -h now" from the command line works for me. it's only the gui interface (ie power-cog) that's not working. is this the same behavior that you're seeing @nick rundy ?

there are some proposed work-arounds here:

if i disable lightdm auto-login then the power-cog gui works correctly. unfortunately that's not an option for me ...
