Selecting "Shut Down" in Session-Indicator causes Log Out

When I select "Shut Down" from the Session-Indicator, my machine logs out instead (i.e., it does not shutdown).

If I select Shut Down in LightDM, then the system will Shut Down.

UPDATE: pressing super-key to open Dash and then typing "Shut Down" and then Enter to shutdown via this method also results in logout.

I'm also getting Logged Out when I select Restart from within the Dash.

There's no way to restart or shut down ubuntu without first logging out.

I'm getting the same in unity (3d). Shutdown results in logout. Shutdown from login screen results in no action. Only way to shut down is to press and hold the power button :) or to log back in and shutdown via sudo from a terminal session.
