Shortcut hint overlay doesn't show up in Unity 2D

I've found this question on askubuntu: http://askubuntu.com/questions/142891/unity-shortcut-hint-overlay-doesnt-show-up . It addresses the same problem that I experience: pressing and holding the Super key does not bring up the hint overlay in Unity 2D. It works perfectly in "regular" Unity.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04. unity-2d is at version 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1.
