Bug Description

Please sync ufraw 0.13-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Rationale:
New upstream version resolves licensing issues
New upstream version has better integration with gimp
New Debian revision builds successfully on hardy.

Additional Debian changelog:

ufraw (0.13-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream version. (closes: #451084)
    * ufraw standalone tool now has a "send to Gimp" option, which should
minimize the need for a .desktop file for gimp-ufraw. (closes: #413717)
  * debian/control: ufraw and gimp-ufraw Suggests: each other
  * debian/control: don't Depends: gimp (<< x), since gimp doesn't break
ABI compatibility on minor version bumps.
  * debian/rules: don't ignore errors on make distclean.

You should wait for 0.12.1 to be released in a few days since it fixes a couple of serious bugs. Beware of the changed build dependencies.

UFRaw 0.12.1 was released a week ago. Beware that you must use GtkImageView 1.3.0 with UFRaw 0.12.1, not GtkImageView 1.4.0.

It is actually quite critical that this upgrade at least makes it into gutsy, as the current version will crash on the use of certain cameras...

Since the update to gimp 2.4 release candidate 2, gimp-ufraw can't be intalled the regular way, because it retains dependncies on gimp 2.3. It would be cool to solve that and have 0.12.1 if possible.

@Ludovico Fischer : don't do multiple bug reports in same bug.

1/ 0.12.1 can-t be built since dcraw licence problem not resolved (Bug #86480)

2/ Problem on installing gimp-ufraw under gutsy is Bug #138404

I didn't investigate it in details but it seems Debian solved the license problem since they provide ufraw 0.12.1 for the unstable (sid) distribution ( http://packages.debian.org/sid/ufraw ).
What is then preventing ubuntu to do the same ?

Anyway as a workaround, using debian packages of ufraw and gimp-ufraw 0.12.1 ( http://packages.debian.org/sid/ufraw and http://packages.debian.org/sid/gimp-ufraw ) works perfectly for gutsy provided you also install debian
libgtkimageview0 1.5 ( http://packages.debian.org/sid/libgtkimageview0 ) which doesn't even exist for ubuntu.

Meanwhile DCRaw 8.78 has been released with an option to distribute under GPL 2 or later. The upcoming UFRaw 0.13 (expected to be released next Sunday) use the option and is pure GPL 2.

Version 0.13 has been released now so it should be possible to update the package.

This bug was nominated for Gutsy but does currently not qualify for a 7.10 stable release update (SRU) and the nomination is therefore declined.
According the the SRU policy, the fix should already be deployed and tested in the current development version before an update to the stable releases will be considered. With 7.10 now released, that policy applies to this bug. See: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates .
The bug is not being closed as work will continue on fixing it for the next release, Hardy Heron (8.04).
