Bug Description

I upgraded to 23.10. Since then I cannot access the NTFS partition on this dual boot (with Windows 10) PC. Also an external USB drive formatted in NTFS cannot be mounted. Everything works fine on 23.04.

The error message received is idential in both cases:

Error mounting /dev/sda4 at /media/john/: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda4, missing codepage or helper program or other error

To repeat - everying works fine on 23.04. There is no problem with the NTFS partition or USB drive on Windows or 23.04.

I fixed the issue by running chkdsk on the Windows side. It found errors that were fixed and the NTFS partition can now be mounted and read by Ubuntu. I still don't understand why Ubuntu 23.04 could mount and read the partition with the errors present but the issue is now fixed.
