Bug Description

The format function in the 'Startup disk creator' does not work.

Test Case:
- open startup disk creator
- Select disk to use (using a fat 32 formatted drive)
- Erase disk

Expected result:
- Erased disk

Current result:
- After a long time more than 5 minutes an error message appears saying disk format failed

Work around:
- Format the drive using gparted.
- use 'startup disk creator' to create a startup disk with this already formatted drive.

Priority:
This problem might be a high priority problem given bug #1 that we want more users for ubuntu and this problem makes it more difficult to install ubuntu using a usb drive. Especially when considering that quite a few computers don't have a optical drive any more.

This Problem seems related to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udisks/+bug/1059872

I had a similar problem. After a while I would get some pop-up window with an error in the org.freedesktop protocol or something like that. Also, some background processes continue running and burning my CPU at close to 100%, so I am forced to restart the computer.

My workaround at the moment is to use GParted and manually format the drive.

Retested on 13.10 beta, problem stil exists.

On a side note... this app got even worse in 13.10, after formatting it with partition magic I can't use it to write a iso to any stick I have. This app has not been working for several ubuntu releases now. If its not important enough to have, than remove it from the distro.

My suggestion is to remove this app and have unetbootin by default. With an on time only code change unetbooting can be as easy. Besides a working app this helps reducing the ammount of code maintanance (one crappy app less).
