Bug Description

I have a Dell XPS M1330. On this computer, the Fn+right arrow key combination should change the keyboard backlight. Pressing the key combination, however, leads to complete loss of keyboard input to any program. Keyboard input can only be restored by rebooting my computer.

Description: Ubuntu 11.10
Release: 11.10

Does it get back if you press ctrl+alt+f1 and then ctrl+alt+f7 ?

Can you please find out the current key/scan code of that key with "keymap -i", as described on /usr/share/doc/udev/README.keymap.txt.gz ?

Thank you, indeed keyboard input comes back when I press ctrl+alt+f1 and then ctrl+alt+f7. I also scanned the key code:

First, note that /lib/udev/findkeyboards does not yield any keyboard in my case, but I could figure out that my keyboard is at /dev/input/event4. Scanning the key using keymap -i input/event4 gives me:

scan code: 0x8C, key code: f23

This bug was fixed in the package udev - 175-0ubuntu7

---------------
udev (175-0ubuntu7) precise; urgency=low

  * builtin-block-polling.patch: Fix default attribute comparison for CD
drives, the default value of events_poll_msecs is -1, not 0. This really
makes in-kernel polling work for those.
  * builtin-block-polling.patch: Apply to all drives with removable media, not
    just CD drives. (LP: #948663)
  * 00git-keymaps.patch: Update to the latest keymaps from upstream:
    - Dell XPS (LP: #910911)
    - HP Presario CQ60 (LP: #935804)
  * debian/rules: Drop prep and tarball targets. We want to use the upstream
    released tarballs.
  * debian/rules: Use dh_autoreconf. Add build dependency.
