Bug Description

Binary package hint: udev

This is basically bug 712026. However, that bug was marked 'fix-released', and indeed, a change made the occurrence vastly less likely. However, we do still see it occasionally on released 11.04 and it is occurring fairly frequently on oneiric alpha1 testing.

The problem manifests itself by a ec2 instance being unreachable, and the console log saying having things like:

| udevd[193]: bind failed: Address already in use
| udevd[193]: error binding udev control socket
| ...
| init: udev main process (193) terminated with status 1
| init: udev main process ended, respawning
| ...
| cloud-init-nonet waiting 60 seconds for a network device.

It is most often curable with a reboot.

Attaching console output of reboot. Note, not all the kernel boot is there as some of the cloud-init output went to the console and pushed it off.

This affects me so consistently on my system (x58 mb, i980x CPU, nvidia GTX465) that I backed off on testing Oneiric for now (since I use this as my primary gaming rig too). I could only boot about one in 30 tries, and when it failed there was no way to even do RSEIUB since the USB keyboard wasn't recognized. My console output was pretty much identical to Scott's.

This might be a dupe of bug 787610?
