Blank cd/dvd not recognized

Binary package hint: udev

When a blank cd-r disk is inserted in my DVD rw drive, the drive disappears from nautilus (and all other program). When I remove the disk the drive re-appears. This only happens with blank disks, but music cd's, data cd/dvd's and movie dvd's are detected and work without any problem.

I'm reporting this with "ubuntu-bug storage" as suggested in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/udev/+bug/554433.

When this happens, I can find this in dmesg:

this bug is listed as fixed in udev 10 and up, but i have the same problem in udev 11 with a 'HL-DT-ST' 'DVDRAM GH41N drive. It won't read blank dvd's. It used to just find before lucid.

same thing for me in lucid but i have problems with RW.
