Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22
as stated in the headline the brightness-keys do not work in gutsy.
the keys are assigned to Fn+F8/F9.
to test the physical availabilty i did a xev and had a look in /var/log/messages but i couldn't get any response.
there is another xa1526 user, who could get it working with an older bios and ubuntu 6.10:

im not on my laptop right now, i will paste the following data later:
