Same here with the lenovo b570. I have not found a workaround

I found a workaround here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2181534

create the file /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf with the following content:
Code:
Section "Device"
        Identifier "card0"
        Driver "intel"
        Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"

EndSection
...and log out and back in again

Same problem on Ubuntu 14.04 and derivates on Asus 1011px netbook. It works with the workaround previously mentioned by micred

Reproduced on Ubuntu 14.04, Asus 1015PEM netbook. Fixed using the workaround by micred.

Same for me Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 amd64 Hp2000-299wm with Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset graphics. Workaround in comment #6 works for me.
