Bug Description

Similar problem to Bug #14705 and others.

The scanner is connected to /dev/sg3, default group is "root". Can only scan as root. As a work around, 'sudo chmod a+rw /dev/sg3' works for current session.

Using Feisty, Epson 2450.

I have the same Epson 2450 scanner on IEEE-1394 and it is root and root as described. It is not recognised when sane-find-scanner is used. However, sudo sane-find-scanner correctly identifies the scanner.

read bug #119351, first reported on 2007-06-08 by Gernot Hillier for a similar issue

I connected my Epson 2450 using the firewire interface, then added the attached file into /etc/udev/rules.d/ and now the scanner "Just Works".

Thanks to Andrew Packer for pointing me in the direction of /dev/sg*.

Also learned this morning that the Fedora people are going to try a patch that they've got to get the scanner working with USB2.0.

Daivd - the USB 2.0 discussion is more appropriate for bug 34551. Please add that information there.

This bug is actually a duplicate of 119351, which is fixed in Gutsy, so I am going to mark it as such.
