Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

pkg: ubuntuone-client

ubuntuone-client

identical to bug #504978 but diverges at end - still not working

 at the end I get:

I have the same issue. Now I am stuck at:

jim@FoxTrot:/tmp/bin$ u1sync --authorize
Exception in thread authorization:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/threading.py", line 532, in __bootstrap_inner

  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/ubuntuone/oauthdesktop/auth.py", line 272, in open_in_browser

  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/ubuntuone/oauthdesktop/auth.py", line 160, in _forward_error_callback
    raise error
IOError: Error showing url: Operation not supported

Is this because of a bad certificate?

Jim,
Are you using any script blocking software like No Script? Could you check that Firefox is set as your default browser under:

System > Preferences > Preferred Applications

Can you try the following and let us know the results?

   1. Quit the Ubuntu One client
   2. Open Applications->Accessories->Passwords and Encryption Keys
   3. Click on the arrow next to "Passwords"
   4. Right-click on the Ubuntu One token and select "Delete"
   5. Go to https://one.ubuntu.com/account/machines/
   6. Click on the checkbox next to your computer
   7. Click the "Remove selected computers" button
   8. Open Applications->Internet->Ubuntu One
   9. a web page should open, prompting you to add your computer to your Ubuntu One account
  10. Add your computer

You should be connected after you follow these steps. If you are not connected, can you please attach the following files to this bug report?

~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/oauth-login.log
~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon-exceptions.log
 ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon.log

thank you,

Tried all this but here is what I get after step 5:

Step 5 just shows me directions for Ubuntu 10.04

If I choose Ubuntu one on the "me" menu", all I get is: Authorization error. Error showing url: Operation not supported.

Back to square one. Mind you, I spent a good deal of time on this and found nothing but dead ends..

Thanks for your help anyways.

I have no password for Ubuntu On the ring you asked for.

   5. Go to https://one.ubuntu.com/account/machines/

I get this: You haven't added any computers or devices to your Ubuntu One account. To get started please visit the installation details. But I sure can post files and messages though :)

   6. Click on the checkbox next to your computer

No check box of course...

   7. Click the "Remove selected computers" button
   8. Open Applications->Internet->Ubuntu One

  10. Add your computer

Steps 7-10 are a wash

Sure. There is no ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon-exceptions.log though

~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/oauth-login.log
~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon-exceptions.log
 ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon.log

I'm having the exact same problem. Anyway that I attempt to add my (first) computer I get the error "Error showing url: Operation not supported." I've tried both firefox and chrome as prefered internet browsers, both do not work. Exact same problems as Jim posted. I've attached all of the log files that are related on my computer (I similarly don't have a syncdaemon-exceptions.log)

Could you please try running xdg-open http://www.ubuntu.com in the command line. xdg-open is the script that is run by Ubuntu One to start your preferred browser.
In case that script cannot open the browser as well more investigation will be required - please run
$ bash -x /usr/bin/xdg-open http://ww.ubuntu.com
and copy-paste the output of that command.

You will also find that it is well ingrained into gnome and of course
nautilus... I guess Ive just got to dig into the code and find out myself -
which id precisely they want done.

Hello Jonathan Keane,

Could you please run gnome-open under strace:

$ strace -o gnome-open-debug.txt -s 2048 gnome-open http://www.ubuntu.com

And then attach the created gnome-open-debug.txt file to this bug report. It looks like some internal issue with gnome environment but having the idea about where it actually happens will allow us to investigate further. Thanks!

I actually discovered recently that my problem stemmed from a newer versino of glib that I had installed for something unrelated. Downgrading to the one provided with lucid solved everything.

Jim, could you please check whether you have a different version of glib too?
In either case, could you please try stracing gnome-open to find out what is the system call that gets 'Operation not supported' response?

I have the proper version of glib. I tried that a while ago. What I've
found is that with this version of the desktop,the desktop has trouble
parsing external links - somewhat inconsistently though. I am getting
closer to a solution I hope. When I find it I will share to this thread.
