Sorry to hear you are having an issue with Ubuntu One. Are you able to open the Preferences panel by right-clicking the Ubuntu One applet in the top panel and select Preferences. Set the 'Connect on Start' to 'Never'. Usually after it crashes you can start it and it will work normally. Is that the case with you? If so you can keep it set to not start on connect, then open Ubuntu One manually (Applications > Accessories > Ubuntu One) when you want to sync. This issue has been resolved in Lucid and the Beta/PPA with the replacement of the Applet with the Ubuntu One Preferences.
