ubuntu noe not connecting

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

ubuntu one is showing the "updating files" context information when the mouse is hovered over the notification area icon. it also displays a small red X that hints on not being able to connect internet is working fine apart from that. no proxies are involved in my configuration.
