Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

In testing bug 461109 I ran into poor performance problems on a clean Karmic install with all the latest updates as 2009-10-26 around 10 AM Eastern.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Turn debugging mode on for syncdaemon
2. Setup computer with my account & connected with Ubuntu One service
3. Created a ~/Ubuntu One/Music directory
4. Copied folders with about 650MB of mp3 files to the ~/Ubuntu One/Music directory
5. Throughout the day checked progress of files showing up on web and noticed only a few showing up in some of the folders
6. After running all night, checked the progress on web (with some more files showing in each of the folders, but not all files) and also checked running: $ u1sdtool --current-transfers (which shows the same file trying to transfer for the past hour or so since I started checking it this morning)

I have not had any other computers syncing with this account. The typical upload speed for this internet connection is 300k. When running "nethogs" the Python process (which I assume was syncdaemon) never seemed to get past 100k in sending data. I did not have any cap on the upload or download speed using the bandwidth usage preferences.

is there any ETA as to when this issue is going to be fixed, the system is completely unusable for me and I'm sure many others. Uploads never go higher than 12KB/s on a link that can do 2000 KB/s uploads to google docs (or when I'm at home with 32KB/s upload speed). Even when it peaks at 12KB/s it drops back down to 1KB/s right away, so just little bursts at a time.

Takes almost an hour to upload a 30MB file and I have 30 gigabytes to go until my system is fully backed up. Has taken 4 days to do 388MB.

As a test i have copied the same data in my ubuntu one folder (which hasn't fully uploaded yet) into my dropbox folder and it's uploading at 300-500KB/s. That is acceptable.

If you need any assistance or logs please let me know.

Thanks

I finished the benchmarks on our service... and yes, we have intermittent issues with creating lot of files. It's an issue on how we work in the servers... we're working on this.

Anyway, as the issue is transient, and it's fixed for you, I'll close this as invalid. But feel free to open a new bug if you find similar problems.

I'm seeing this problem in Karmic, right now uploading my files at less than 1kb/s on a connection that supports above 125 kb/s uploads....

Arizona State University supports 1-2 Mbps connections. The client managed to upload 9Mb in about 6-7 hours

Hi,

Only 50MB uploaded in a day with a 15Mbits connection (OK it's an asymetric connection but I normally have about 800kbits of upload).

Ask me for further informations.
Bye!

I am running Lucid and have the same problems. It takes forever for u1 to sync files. The other way around it is also the same, it took about 20 minutes to get 1 song I purchased in the music store to my disk.
This is not really acceptable for a file sync service. Is this a performance issue on the serverside or the client side? I have seen youtube videos with filesync and e.g. file publishing where all went quite fast. In every new version of Ubuntu I try u1 after the installation since the day it has been released and I never ever once had a single experience where something was synced with a reasonable speed.
I really would like to use 50 GB paid option because I like the integration of contacts and other stuff a lot, but I am not willing to pay for such a slow solution.

I will provide every information you need and debug and strace the hell out of the damn thing. Just tell me what you need so this can get fixed.

Hello. Up.

This still actual for Maverick.

I added my ~/Documents directory to Ubuntu One (checked box in nautilus).

Checked my ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon.log

Full ofntries like this:

State: QUEUE_MANAGER

How can i help to fix this? Its really slow comparing to Dropbox. I want to sync files

As schaze mentioned nobody wants to pay for such a slow solution.
