ubuntuone-client-applet crashed just after startup after trying to update

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

1. I opened ubuntu one
2. clicked connect, no response what so ever.
3. went to the /home/{uname}/Ubuntu One folder tried to add a file
4. restarted, "ubuntu one is now updating your files", upon which it crashed.

It never opened the page described in step 4 of this guide https://one.ubuntu.com/support/installation/
I can use the webclient.

This is on karmic koala.
