Bug Description

This bug reports serves as a master bug report for the issues caused by SyncDaemon not being able to contact the DBus server.

In case of NoServer error connecting to the socket, this is caused by syncdaemon being called to start right before the logout. At the time when syncdaemon starts, the DBus is not accessible, so it fails with this exception. When you log in again, apport will show the crash report.

Have you disabled the file sync? Do you experience bug LP:759714 ?

Bfabro, thanks for your bug report. I'm assigning this to one of the developers to look into. In the meantime, please could you upgrade your ubuntuone packages, and see if this is still a problem for you? Please let us know. Thanks.

Okay, it looks like the DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS is indeed valid bit python-dbus is unable to connect for some reason since ubuntuone-syncdaemon does not perform anything extra during the DBus connection.

Could those who encounter this issue try running the following line in the terminal, does it print any errors?

python -c 'import dbus; print dbus.SessionBus()'

Ok, I was able to reproduce this under the following conditions:

1. ubuntuone-syncdaemon had file synchronization disabled.
2. A call was made to Ubuntu One SyncDaemon DBus API that triggered the syncdaemon to be started.
3. libsyncdaemon in nautilus plugin was listening to NameOwnerChange event from DBus
4. syncdaemon starts up, aquires DBus name, finds that file sync is disabled and shuts down
5. nautilus found that syncdaemon is starting and queued some calls to /status
6. SyncDaemon is being restarted
7. I log out from the session, session manager tells me that File Manager (nautilus) is very busy
8. I log in back to the session and /var/crash/_usr_lib_ubuntuone-client_ubuntuone-syncdaemon.1000.crash has appeared with the date/time corresponding to my logout.

Exception:
DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoServer: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-NjgqXdjDbh: Connection refused

But this dbus session is not valid:
$ echo $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS
unix:abstract=/tmp/dbus-hNCmBsQZMX,guid=14abeb90782bd46a03e00a4d00000084

Does anybody who experience this issue have File Synchronization disabled?

Yes - I have File Sync disabled.

If you have file sync disabled, and keep getting this error on login, could you please check whether syncdaemon is constantly restarting and using excessive amount of CPU. You can look at it in gnome-system-monitor or terminal application called "top".

Ok, just had another incident, it happened immediately after a key-ring logon. I checked the system monitor, and there seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary happening, no CPU usage other than system moniutor.

I can't tell if I have file sync disabled or not, as it hasn't worked for months, and the new control panel in natty doesn't even let me turn it on or off (it's greyed out).
CPU usage isn't particularly high, but whilst trying to kill ubuntuone-syncdaemon, I discovered it is constantly restarting itself - it is almost impossible to kill due to this, as it keeps getting assigned a new PID.

For the record, this is the error message displayed inside the Ubuntu One control panel, although it tends to vary slightly:
File Sync error. (org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus))
