Bug Description

In the model provided by SortFilterModel the sorting is handled such that lower case letters are after any and all items that start with an upper case letter. This produces ordering such as the following when sorting by Qt.AscendingOrder:

It would ideal if the result was a case insensitive ordering.

A similar bug (lp:1391018) has been filed against the mediascanner2 component. The music app was going to use the SortFilterModel to work around the mediascanner2 issue (and another issue related to sorting), but that is not possible given the current ordering of sorted items in SortFilterModel.

Can we add an option to SortFilterModel to make the sorting case insensitive?

sortCaseSensitivity: Qt.CaseInsensitive should do what you want?

@Christian, that worked great! It'd be nice to have that as the default and to also have it in the API [1]

I'm not sure that it should be the default. Though mentioning it in the docs seems like a good idea.

  * This is needed by unity8 for the "shell rotation" feature (ie
shell does all the rotation work instead of apps rotating
themselves). unity8's dialogs (like the power dialog when you
long press the power button) should follow its parent item
rotation and size, as one would expect, and not be sneakily
reparented to the scene root item, in which case the shell
UI would be rotated but its dialog would not.
