Bug Description

Hi,

There should be an option to show the name of the user in the lockscreen. Yesterday I've lost my bq at my job, if there was the possibility to add my name in the lock screen below the clock and date would make a great improvement. Since it not exist at the moment, my friends at the office have some difficulties to find who the proprietary was.

Thanks

It's a standard feature in android

It seems android may provide a free format string the user can define.

This works now in the first-run wizard, is missing in System Settings now.

Let me rephrase after having understood this bug properly. We currently do display the name (as set in the first-use wizard) on the tablet, not yet on the phone - but we'll be converging the two in the coming months.

So we're still missing a way to set it in the settings app, but also displaying it in the phone greeter.

Now whether we want this to be optional is another question. Could be considered a privacy issue in theory. Adding ubuntu-ux to determine what we want there.

summary: - [Lockscreen]Name of user
+ [Lockscreen] Option to show user's name on the greeter

This bug report is confusing two issues. “Show the name of the user in the lockscreen”, is useful only if the device has multiple users. That is very different from the feature in Android 5.0 and later and OS X 10.7 and later for displaying custom text (e.g. your contact details) on the lock screen, which is useful even if the device has a single user.

Please reopen this bug report once you’ve decided which it is about.

@mpt I believe the bug reporter meant to have an option to enter custom text. This is how they do in adroid:

In the meantime you can use Circle Message app as a workaround 😊

@mpredotka I do that from the very beginning actually! But there is a problem with the owner info in the circle. Suppose I lose my phone and some non-Ubuntu-Touch-user finds it. Then if the circle is not set at the owner info screen, the it's highly probable that the person wouldn't realise that double tapping over and over again will lead them to the owner info screen.

@anupam207 I totally agree with you. Even for Ubuntu users double tapping the circle is hard to discover as this gesture is not really used anywhere else on the phone.

Anyway I think it would be also very useful to have option to put an arbitrary contact as emergency contact but that's probably for different bug.
