Bug Description

system-image-cli -i (latest OTA-5 update and all app updates):
current build number: 24
device name: krillin
channel: ubuntu-touch/stable/bq-aquaris.en
last update: 2015-07-20 17:06:22
version version: 24
version ubuntu: 20150713
version device: 20150529-8e13c5f
version custom: 20150709-814-29-21-vivid

I am not able to make data connection on bq aquaris E4.5. It used to work before.

I see the 3G icon suggesting 3G is working. Looking into APNs I see the wap APN is selected. When I select Internet APN, open browser, I cannot transfer data. Looking back to APN setup I see wap APN selected again.

During discussion with provider he told me the Type should be default,supl. When I run /usr/share/ofono/script/list-contexts, I see:

[ /ril_0 ]
    [ /ril_0/context1 ]
        Protocol = ip
        AccessPointName = internet
        IPv6.Settings = { }
        Username =
        Preferred = 0
        Active = 0
        Type = internet
        Settings = { }
        Name = Orange SK
        Password =

... so the Type here is internet, not default,supl as provider suggested and there is no way to change it.

What changed in ubuntu-system-settings since it used to work? Or something changed at provider side?

Thanks.

Marek

Can you show the active APN that is selected?
Also please add the output of system-image-cli -i
Is the APN in the description is a custom one that you entered?

The original APN description is the one automatically added. The custom APN looked exactly the same. I do not have it now, since I played with APNs, and had to reset-contexts. But if really needed I can create it once more.

Hi Marek, could you update the bug with the full output of list-context? It's unclear what your APN configuration is.

Does your carrier allow cellular data at this time? What is your carrier's instructions for APN configuration, could you link to it?

This is the db entry in use which seems to be what was recommended:

  <apn carrier="Orange World"
      mcc="231"
      mnc="01"
      apn="orangewap"
      user="wap"
      password="wap"
      authtype="1"
      proxy="213.151.208.156"
      port="8799"
      type="default,supl"
  />

Also an address is assigned and the ip settings look correct, may need to look elsewhere for the issue.

I am not sure whet you mean with: Does your carrier allow cellular data at this time? The SIM card is working in another phone if you are asking for that.

Pat,

the setup you sent is nearly the context /ril_0/context3. I always get connected to this context also when selected /ril_0/context1 which should be the right one for mobile data. The Orange World is for wap. I get connectoed to wap, having ip address, but unable to ping the world. The wap context is not the correct one for mobile data I suppose.

I tried following:

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:/usr/share/ofono/scripts$ ./deactivate-context /ril_0 3
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:/usr/share/ofono/scripts$ ./activate-context /ril_0 1
Error activating /ril_0/context1: org.ofono.Error.NotImplemented: Implementation not provided

This is probably the cause why the Orange SK APN is always switched to Orange World (the wap one).

Marek,

when you tried activating the context, you tried activating an MMS context.
The command is expecting a context which is 0-indexed. So retry using
context ril_0 0 instead.

I think you are wrong:

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:/usr/share/ofono/scripts$ ./activate-context /ril_0 0
Error activating /ril_0/context4: org.ofono.Error.NotAttached: GPRS is not attached

Ah, you are correct. Sorry.

What I was supposed to say is that we don't activate context like that
anymore. The Preferred flag should be used instead. So in your case, use

/usr/share/ofono/scripts/set-context-property ril_0 1 Preferred 1

This will trigger NetworkManager to activate the context for you.

As I written before, it immediatelly switches back to Orange World context.

Just to clarify, I tested the /usr/share/ofono/scripts/set-context-property ril_0 1 Preferred 1.

The preferred flag is now on Orange SK context using list-contexts, but I still have no data connection and when I go to APN editor I still see Orange World context selected. After selecting Orange SK, leaving the editor and going back it is back to Orange World.

Marek, we're updating the APN panel shortly (targeted for next week/OTA6), and it's fixing a slew of APN related bugs [1]. If you are willing to flash your device (usually no data loss) to a more frequently updated channel, you can confirm/deny that this update will fix your APN issues.
