Bug Description

/custom/build_id is just an epoch time stamp, which is used to facilitate dconf updates. The version strng in /etc/system-image/channel.ini is more human-friendly, and is what is used by system-image as a version string, the UI of the phone should be reporting the same version string here.

Do you know if there is a system-image api we can call to give us that version?

it seems that for a while the human-friendly variant was used inside /custom/build_id so that the properly readable string showed in the UI even without this bug fixed. this very recently regressed in rc-proposed to show the epoch stamp again ...

/custom/build_id should always be the epoch, as that's what the
custom-dconf upstart job checks to see whether dconf needs to be updated

hmm, then i wonder why it showed the right string for a few weeks and only switched to the epoch in the UI recently again ... (i'm 100% sure it was correct here on krillin very recently when i compared the two phones)

I wonder if maybe capomastro was overwriting the /custom/build_id or
something?
