Bug Description

Upgrading my Thinkpad T510 from Kubuntu 23.10 to 24.10 worked fine but the system freezes after some minmal activity with the kernel 6.8.0-36-generic.
No chance to check any log files or check for other issues. System freezes completly.

Booting with advanced options and choosing the old 23.20 kernel (version 6.5.0-28-generic) works perfectly fine.

Retested today after upgrade to kernel 6.8.0-38-generic.

Same behavior as before. System is freezing after some user activity while logging in.
Sometimes login finishes but then system freezes once there is some user activity.

Also testest with additional kernel parameter "nomodeset" as it seemed to me that his is related to i915 GPU. System is working stable but with not optimal screen resolution and a lot of dimesg warnings like:
intel ips 0000:00:1f.6: failed to disable graphics turbo

Any idea how the behavior like with kernel 6.5 like in Ubuntu 23.10 can be restored also with 6.8 kernel?

Also did a test with a fresh Kubuntu 24.04 iso on an usb thumb drive to exclude failure by the the existing installation (system is getting upgraded since 18.10).

Same as before.
System starts up and freezes after some initial user activity.
Often already during language selection.
