Bug Description

Can't install "ubuntu desktop" . . . for over four days now (May 12, 2024)

Error msg:
It was impossible to install a required package. Please report this as a bug using 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal.

22.04.4 LTS, 64-bit, GNOME ver. 42.9, Windowing system - Wayland

Routine (daily) update checks were completely normal before this event; such normal updates were thus expected until four days ago.
Instead, the update process failed and the above error msg displayed.
Repeated attempts in the succeeding four days to update yield the same results.
A hacking attempt is suspected, but as yet unconfirmed.
