upgrade from focal to JammyJellyfish failed

trying to recover from complete filesystem lockout. Was running latest Jammy Jellyfish. trying to restore using usb focal fossa... upgrade found errors and will not proceed.

Suspect related to 'read only filesystem' issue which has frozen access to computer
