Upgrade quit and lost GUI environment

I was upgrading from Jammy to Kinetic and my X Window environment crashed / disappeared. I then had to use 'sudo dpkg --configure -a" followed by "sudo apt-get -f install" and "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade".
