Bug Description

I received a message today about Ubuntu 21.10 having been released and I upgraded even though I was already using that version.

A large number of packages were installed and a lesser number removed. The computer then was rebooted and seemed normal except for web pages on which I was unable to use for example BitWarden password manager web page icon. This did not respond. It needed the page to be shut down and restarted.

Later I turned off the monitor and was afk for some while. When I returned the system did not respond to any mouse clicks and needed a hard reboot to gain control. This has happened twice prior to this report.

Before the update the Power manager was set to turn off the screen after 6 minutes. I wondered if having this set and manually turning off the screen could be a problem. I changed the Power Manager setting to 'never' but the system freeze still occurred after manually turning off the screen and being afk.

This problem occurred immediately after the distribution upgrade and nothing in the system had been manually changed.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

FYI: from what I can see; you upgraded from hirsute (21.04) to impish (21.10) less than 1 day ago; and it was this upgrade that you seem to think was from impish to impish. You've listed the issue as relating to the ubuntu-release-upgrader or what upgraded your system from hirsute/21.04 to impish/21.10; yet that appears to be have successful to me; but instead need support on your now impish/21.10 system with its newer kernel & software.
