Updated to 18.04 system hangs on boot

Bug Description

Kernel vmlinuz-4.15.0-117-generic
Hangs, last messages on screen are:
2.253507 usb 3-1: New USB device found, idVendor=1d05, idProduct=5000
2.253553 usb 3-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
2.253598 usb 3-1: Product: Combo Free KVM
2.253637 usb 3-1: Manufacturer: No Brand
2.624473 xhci_hdc 000:05:00.0: xHCI Host Controller
2.624515 xhci_hdc 0000:05:00.0 new USB Bus registered, assigned buss number 9

Recovery is via Grub and selecting the old last as installed Kernel vmlinuz-4.4.0-179-generic

Please note that this has happened since I upgraded
1) Description: Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS
2) Release: 18.04
3)I expected to kernel to complete booting.
4)What happened was, it hangs, for hours.

This bug is now moot as I have upgraded to 20.04.1 and it boots perfectly.
