Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

The suggestion to use 'ppa-purge' occurs when 3rd party (non-Ubuntu) software has been added to your machine from PPAs or other 3rd party repositories.

The upgrade system is tested to work with official Ubuntu packages (ie. Ubuntu software), thus ppa-purge is used to remove the conflicting 3rd party packages. After the unofficial or 3rd party (PPA) software has been removed, upgrade can occur. After upgrade has completed, you have rebooted and logged into your new Ubuntu 20.04 LTS release, then if required, the 3rd party packages can be re-added, but this is more of a support issue.

Support can be found at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu (this bug report can be converted to a question). You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709
