Bug Description

"This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu"

None of this applies. I *did* have unofficial software packages when I first got this error, but I removed all of them, I believe (removed everything under "Obsolete ... Packages" in aptitude). Still getting the error.

After digging around some related bugs and from there poking around /var/log/dist-upgrade, I concluded that it was getting stuck on rdnssd, which I wasn't really using anyway. I removed it, and have at least so far gotten past this error.

I've just encountered the same problem. Removing rdnssd solved it.

Simular thing for me

16.04 to 16.10 went kindof ok
( networking stopped working and a few other misc things broken )

but now the final step from 16.10 - 17.04 is bringing this error
