Bug Description

I run a somewhat customized version of ubuntu (cinammon desktop, KDE, Gnome3 and LXFE), which I recently upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04. Ever since then, I've been having some issues with packages I had installed.

That is to be expected, but lately, I get an error message whenever I log in (probably the updater runs into problems). So when I now tried to update my packages manually, I ran into this problem. I can, no longer, keep my software up to date, it would seem.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Hello; I'd try apt-get purging ubuntu-desktop and maybe kubuntu-desktop, performing the upgrade, and then trying to re-install these packages. That might be enough to allow the dependency tools to figure out an upgrade path.

Thanks
