Does the fix from bug #1313165 help with this?

Mathew Hodson (mathew-hodson) wrote :

Debdiff for trusty based on the fix for bug #1313165.

The attachment "ubuntu-release-upgrader-trusty.debdiff" seems to be a debdiff. The ubuntu-sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. If the attachment isn't a patch, please remove the "patch" flag from the attachment, remove the "patch" tag, and if you are member of the ~ubuntu-sponsors, unsubscribe the team.

Thanks for working on this but this doesn't actually work as there is no ubuntu-release-upgrader binary package.

 $ apt-cache search ubuntu-release-upgrader
ubuntu-release-upgrader-core - manage release upgrades
ubuntu-release-upgrader-gtk - manage release upgrades
ubuntu-release-upgrader-qt - manage release upgrades

So we aren't matching anything with the blacklist entry and end up allowing ubuntu-release-upgrader-core to be removed which isn't the desired outcome.

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote :

I believe this requires some reworking of how the removal blacklist is created in ubuntu-release-upgrader to allow blacklisting of specific packages for certain meta-packages.

This bug was fixed in the package ubuntu-release-upgrader - 1:15.10.8

---------------
ubuntu-release-upgrader (1:15.10.8) wily; urgency=medium

  * data/removal_blacklist.cfg: make ubuntu-release-upgrader blacklist entry
    more specific so it does not match ubuntu-release-upgrader-qt.
