Standard 13.10 install on Thinkpad X230T, brings up error message on upgrade.

I removed Cinnamon, which allowed the upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04 to proceed. However, after reboot, I get my login screen and enter my password, but the screen hangs.

Instead of trying to resolve, I put 14.04 on a USB key and started installation. The Ubuntu installer recognized that 14.04 was already on the computer, and has offered to do a reinstallation (preserving home and data). That's close enough for me to close this bug.
