Bug Description

Ever since gnome 3.10 showed up in the gnome3-team PPA for saucy I've been seeing these three errors repeated on the console when launching GUI apps:

Fontconfig error: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/65-khmer.conf", line 14: out of memory
Fontconfig error: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/65-khmer.conf", line 23: out of memory
Fontconfig error: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/65-khmer.conf", line 32: out of memory

Even running dot from graphviz to produce an image prints these errors.

This did not happen with fontconfig 2.10.93-0ubuntu1.

/etc/fonts/conf.d/65-khmer.conf looks like a simple file with no fancy stuff in it (attached, just in case).

The warnings disappeared for me after I did `apt-get purge fonts-khmeros-core`. (I was curious if they would just change to mention some other config file, but no, they're gone.)

I'm using unity, not gnome and I also have this problem. I don't think it's related to gnome.

Upgraded to trusty and started getting precisely the same three error messages.
After "apt-get purge fonts-khmeros-core" the errors went away.
After "apt-get install fonts-khmeros-core" the errors did not come back.
Maybe something was wrong in /etc/fonts/conf.d/65-khmer.conf.
The bad 65-khmer.conf and the working 65-khmer.conf differ by three occurrences of <match target="font"> (with corresponding </match>). These three occurrences cause the three error messages.
Of course the "out of memory" points to a fontconfig bug.

Starting firefox from shell did show the issue.
SOLVED (thanks to Marius Gedminas' propsal) by `sudo apt-get purge fonts-khmeros-core`
