getting tmux version incompatibility message during do-release-upgrade

Bug Description
I was upgrading one of my servers, lost connection and later when I reconnected I got an error message from tmux/byobu about version incompatibility. The upgrade was going from 12.10 to 13.04.

Could you elaborate as to what exactly happened when you reattached to the upgrade? ubuntu- release- upgrader should use screen and not tmux/byobu.
