Bug Description

[Sorry if this is the wrong component]

I'd wish for having meta-packages like "ubuntu-desktop" for various
development-related sections - gnu-devel and gnome-devel for example. I notcied
that it is something of a hassle to try to make sure all needed components are
actually installed when you want to build some application outside the apt system.

Pure wishlist, but it would be pretty nice.

Metapackages are so 1990s :-); they're a regression from the Debian state of the
art. If we implement this, can we please resurrect tasks properly instead, and
fix the tasksel interface up if necessary?

Yes, we would do something different for this. The ubuntu-meta metapackages
have a specific purpose, which is to allow users to keep up-to-date with the
standard package list.

It's currently very inconvenient to track general feature requests like this in
Bugzilla, so I'm closing this bug, and instead adding your request to the list
of proposed feature goals for Hoary in the wiki.
