Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I am in the U.S. and have a New York/U.S. locale. I changed the time setup manually to display in 24 hour time. However, it appears that this does not change the time globally throughout the system. For example, when I print a page from the internet the time always displays in AM/PM even though I have all visible clocks set to 24 hour time.

I think you're asking for a global setting for the view of time and that things like the panel clock and the printing from your web browser should use it. That seems a reasonable request to me.

I had a look, and the Locale environment variable LC_TIME does seem to be able to set this - not sure which programmes take notice of it, and I can't see a way of setting it in Gnome (KDE has a GUI for Locale settings).

Should I submit bug-reports for the running processes of Firefox and the Printer? Because this issue happens when printing from firefox. Is it possible to submit bug-reports for Firefox and Printer by adding them to this bug-report? If you need them please advise. Thanks.

No, I don't think so - it seems a wider issue that needs to be thought at the desktop level.

It would also be desirable if a 24-hour time setting would be represented at the user-login window when 24-hour time is set by an administrator.

This issue is presenting a problem for my email client (Thunderbird). Thunderbird apparently takes its time format from the OS Locale. Despite the fact that every time settings on my computer is set to 24-hour, Thunderbird always shows AM/PM and it appears there's no way to get Thunderbird to display 24-hour for a U.S. Locale because of the OS locale setting.

Within the U.S., there are whole work forces that operate only on 24-hour time. So this is a problem.
