Bug Description

On a regular server install, the tasksel screen shows several "Cloud computing" tasks corresponding to the UEC components. I think this is undesirable because:

* The recommended way of installing UEC components is through the UEC installer, having the options here is confusing
* Using those tasks will fail in undocumented ways (components half-registered)
* It wastes important space on the tasksel screen

It is getting a little too big for my liking as well. It would be nice if we could have an tasksel option for ubuntu-cloud and then when the user selects "ubuntu-cloud" then tasksel displays an option for the eucalyptus options. If that makes sense at all.

Thierry Carrez (ttx) wrote :

The thing is... those tasks will fail to result in a complete UEC setup if you select them. They are meant to be called by the UEC installer, which does extra magic around it to make everything work in the end. The fact that they appear on the tasksel screen is an unwanted side-effect, IMHO.

Colin Watson (cjwatson) wrote :

If you want them to be unselectable in a standard server install, then sure, we can hide them.

This bug was fixed in the package tasksel - 2.73ubuntu26

---------------
tasksel (2.73ubuntu26) lucid; urgency=low

  * On new installs, include preseeded tasks in the choices list, regardless
    of filtering (LP: #540167).
  * Update Ubuntu tasks from seeds, removing edubuntu-ship-addon, updating
uec's Key to cloud-init, and hiding eucalyptus-* on new installs.
