2009-11-09 01:20:19 falconindy description Ubuntu Version: 9.10 Expected behavior: If you use startx to initiate your gnome session after a console login, logging out of the gnome session should send you back to the console. Current behavior: The X Server persists and leaves you with a blank desktop. How to recreate this bug: Add "text" to your GRUB boot entry. Login at the console. Edit $HOME/.xinitrc to add "exec gnome-session". Run "startx". Use the "log out" function from Gnome Panel's Session Indicator Applet. Further information: I'm assuming that the desktop's behavior is to terminate and to let GDM take over control. However, since GDM is never initialized, this of course doesn't happen. Working on this premise, I removed gdm from the init procedure with "sudo update-rc.d -f gdm remove". This had no effect.
