Bug Description

There is no print possibility in gimp "File" menu anymore. You specifically need to install the package gimp-print from universe to have the print option back.

Every average user will want the printing possibility in gimp and this is also a regression from Breezy where the print option was available.

Therefore gimp-print should be moved to main and ubuntu-desktop should depend on gimp-print.

Same here. I'd have thought that this warranted at least a "major" severity.

GNOME 2.14
Dapper 10.3.06 and fully updated

Yes, can confirm this in fully updated 2.6.15-18-686 based dapper.

Solved by the simple expedient of installing the GIMP's gimp-print plug-in from Synaptic. It isn't there by default, although of course it should be.
Gutenprint doesn't perform the same function in the GIMP, but adding gimp-print hasn't affected CUPS gutenprint printing in other apps on mys system.

I agree. gimp-print should be in main an should be installed by default.

Well, it seems to me that printing from a graphics program is basic to its fundamental purpose. Therefore, without it the program is broken and therefore it would appear to be a bug.

If I said that gimp had a broken dependency as it doesn't install gimp-print would that help?

I added it to the desktop seed. Will be fixed with the next ubuntu-meta upload.
